Truth Project

We recently finished going through Focus on the Family's The Truth Project with Del Tackett.  This was an awesome video study on the Christian worldview and I would suggest this to anyone who would like to learn more about what they believe and why.

Here, I've posted the Scripture References from each of the tours, so that you can just hover your mouse pointer over each one and let RefTagger give you a pop up preview, instead of having to look them all up.

Saturday 04-24-10

Saturday was an awesome day of sharing the Gospel!

We had a WOTM Crash Course on Saturday before heading out to distribute tracts and witnesses to the lost, in obedience to the Great Commission. We prayed after the class, and headed out seperately, as some had to stop off for different reasons before meeting at Mill.

I stopped off at Burger King to use the restroom and get some change for trivia questions. You have to buy something to use the restroom, and I needed some ones to give away for trivia in order to gather a crowd, so I bought a double burger for a dollar and brought it with me.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but as I arrived at 5th St, there was a homeless woman with a baby hanging around there, so I gave her the burger and a tract to read through.

Leigh was already out there passing out tracts. Alan came a little later, and then Tom & Catherine with Jean and Doug from the class.

I gave an IQ Test tract to a woman who had just gotten off the bus and was able to talk to her a bit. I took her through the Good Person test, but she would only admit to lying. She said she had never stolen or used the Lord's name in vain. When pressed a little futher, she did admit to lusting as well, which is adultery in the heart and violates the 7th Commandment (Matt 5:28). She still felt she was a "good" Catholic (Prov 20:6), but I explained that Scripture tells us that there are none found good, and that she had already admitted to breaking God's law.

When asked if they would be found innocent or guilty on Judgment Day, so many people will say that they would be "innocent because of Jesus," even though they just admitted to breaking God's law. And they don't seem to understand that Jesus did not come for the righteous, but for sinners (Luke 5:32). If they refuse to admit their guilt, Jesus has nothing for them (Gal 5:4-5), so the correct answer would be "guilty, but forgiven due to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ."

I left her with a couple of tracts and some stuff to think about on eternal matters and her current religion.

Tom and I were playing with an optical illusion which looks like you are throwing a light back and forth between each other. A small group stopped to take pictures of this, and Tom was able to start a conversation with a girl named Emily and her mother, who listened as he took her through a few of the commandments and explained our need for a Savior. It was a pretty long discussion, but we left them with a "Save Yourself Some Pain" tract and an "Are You Good Enough to Get into Heaven" tract, which takes you through all ten of the commandments. I'm not sure how receptive they were, but they were willing to look into it a bit further - seeds planted.

Then Tom did some open air trivia, and talked with a woman named Roxanne and her friend. Both women seemed very much into the grace and love, warm fuzzy message of the modern Gospel and didn't like talking about the other side of it - God's wrath against sin and rebellion, punishment in hell and how we all deserve that for breaking His law. But they did listen to the whole thing, and we left them with some good tracts to read through later as well.

A young lady approached us saying that she needed $1.75 because they had missed their bus and couldn't get to a friend's house where they were staying. Earlier, I had found "A Gift For You" tract that I'd forgotten that I had put a five dollar bill in. This is an envelope with a good Gospel message printed on it, and little tabs to secure money inside. So I gave her that and told her to make sure that she read it, and went back to organize some stuff in my backpack.
I turned around and there she was, and grabbed me in a big bear hug and thanked me.

After that, Jean got on the soapbox to do her first open air. She did very well and didn't seem nervous at all. We only knew that she was because we can remember the first time we stepped up there to do it. She did an awesome job, going through the Ten Commandments. God's Word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11), and it went out on Saturday night on Mill Ave.

Later on, I got up to do some open air trivia, and a woman named Marcella agreed to take the Good Person Test. She found that she wasn't a good person at all by God's standard, and I explained the Gospel and what we need to do in order for Christ's sacrifice to apply to us - repent and trust in Him alone. She thanked us and we gave her a couple extra tracts to take with her as she left with her family.

Marcus and Phil were preaching at the corner, and there was a drunk who was a bit upset at the message as well as the video camera. I helped herd him away a couple of times before he finally left.
Apparently, wherever he went, someone sprayed him with pepper spray, and he came back to blame the street preachers.

Doug stayed with me as others headed out for the night, and we passed out more tracts before heading home ourselves around 12:30 or so.

It was a great night, people were very receptive to tracts and we distributed a lot of them, finding only a few of them tossed on the ground. We had many good discussions with people and God's Word was proclaimed.

Here's a video sample. You can find more at Tom's blog - tillthenetsrful.

Saturday 04-17-10

Tom and I headed out to Mill on Saturday night to share the Gospel. We met Allan out there and prayed before getting started. We handed out a few tracts and then a couple of guys stopped by with a video camera and asked what we were doing. They asked if it was ok to film us for a class project he was doing. Tom said, "Sure, will you email me the video?" and the guy agreed. So, Tom took the guys friend and ran him through the Good Person test while the other guy filmed. A little later on, one of the atheists stopped by to argue, and so he filmed all of that as well. It should be pretty interesting.

While Tom was doing that, I moved away to pass out more tracts. I came across a young woman who liked the IQ Test tracts, and so I was able to witness to her, but she didn't seem to be paying a lot of attention. She kept looking around nervously as if she had somewhere to go, or maybe just wanted to get away. I gave her a couple of tracts and she left. I'm not really sure how much of it really sunk in for her, but maybe she'll read the tracts more in depth later and gain more understanding.

We passed out more tracts and Emily and Breanna from Urban Evangie joined us, and Marcus and Phil (Repent Trust) showed up a little later.

Allan did some open air preaching and then I did some trivia questions to gather a crowd. There were a couple of Christians who stopped by, yet still considered themselves to be "good" people. I took them through the Good Person test and left them with a few tracts and the WOTM website to check into for further information.

Tom did some trivia and gathered a descent sized crowd. One woman came forward to take the Good Person test and I filmed. That should be available on Tom's blog shortly. LINK

She went through the whole thing, but at the end, she stated that only God could judge her and walked away. She was wrong in that, because we can also judge ourselves. God has revealed His moral standard to us in the Ten Commandments, and she had just gone through a few of them and knew that she fell short. When conviction hits, people will either repent or get mad, and she was too proud to repent at this point.
However, as she walked away, another woman walked up to Tom and tearfully asked for prayer. She had been listening in the crowd and was very convicted and realized her need. It often works out this way - the people that you think you're talking to aren't necessarily the ones that God has chosen to speak to. Sometimes this is revealed to us, as the woman came forward, but sometimes it's not. There may be a person hearing it just out of sight around the corner, or someone hanging around nearby seemingly not paying attention. Sometimes they will come up to us later on, other times they won't. But we know that God's Word does not return to Him void. Glory to Him.

Later we handed a tract to a man who handed us a CD in return. He said his name was Chris and he was out trying to get some publicity for his band. He asked us about what we were doing, so Tom and I were able to witness to him a bit. He admitted to being a bit drunk, but seemed to enjoy discussing spiritual things. He said that his father was a Catholic and his mother a Protestant, but he didn't really hold to either belief. He seemed to be doing a bit of searching. We talked to him for a while and gave him a copy of "Save Yourself Some Pain." Tom asked if we could pray for him right then and he said that would be great, so we both prayed for Chris right there in the middle of the sidewalk. He thanked us and went on his way. Please keep him in prayer, that the Lord would work in him, revealing the truth and opening his eyes that he may be truly saved.

Soli Deo Gloria

Diary Of A Bible

This was an interesting email I received the other day.

Diary Of A Bible

January: A busy time for me. Most of the family decided to read me through this year. They kept me busy for the first two weeks, but they have forgotten me now.

FEBRUARY: Clean-up time. I was dusted yesterday and put in my place. My owner did use me for a few minutes last week. He had been in an argument and was looking up some references to prove he was right.

MARCH: Had a busy day first of the month. My owner was elected president of the PTA & used me to prepare a speech.

APRIL: Grandpa visited us this month. He kept me on his lap for an hour reading from 1 Peter 5:5-7. He seems to think more of me than do some people in my own household.

MAY: I have a few green stains on my pages. Some spring flowers were pressed in my pages.

JUNE: I look like a scrapbook. They have stuffed me full of newspaper clippings - one of the girls got married.

JULY: They put me in a suitcase today. I guess we are off on vacation. I wish I could stay home; I know I'll be closed up in this thing for at least two weeks.

AUGUST: Still in the suitcase.

SEPTEMBER: Back home at last and in my old familiar place. I have a lot of company. Two women's magazines and four comic books are stacked on top of me. I wish I could be read as much as they are.

OCTOBER: They read me a little bit today. One of them is very sick. Right now I am sitting in the center of the coffee table. I think the Pastor is coming by for a visit.

NOVEMBER: Back in my old place. Somebody asked today if I were a scrapbook.

DECEMBER: The family is busy getting ready for the holidays. I guess I'll be covered up under wrapping paper & packages again...just as I am every Christmas.

Saturday 04-10-10

Tom and I headed out to Mill Ave and met Leigh as we were walking over to the post office (our usual spot for street preaching and witnessing). Valerie was already out there by herself, handing out tracts. Allan and Joe joined us a little later.

We played some ApologetiX through the speaker system and handed out tracts for a while, then started some open air preaching. I preached for a while, and then did some trivia, which caught people’s interest right away. Two people wanted to go through the Good Person Test at the same time, so we went through it with both of them. Both were self admitted lying, thieving, blaspheming adulterers-at-heart and were found to be just like the rest of us – not good by God’s standard.

It is only when we compare ourselves to other people that we come to the wrong conclusion that we’re good. Once held up to God’s moral standard, we can see ourselves as God sees us, and understand the danger we are in. One of the women seemed to have heard it before, and the other one had not. They both heard the Gospel clearly, and went on their way.

Marcus and Phil joined us and started preaching at the corner, and Sean showed up as well. Tom moved down a little further from their loudspeaker to do some more trivia, and had a small crowd pretty quickly. You can check out the video for that at Tom’s blog, Til The neTs r full

Around 11:30 or so, we decided to take off and go to Taco Bell, where a friend of Toms works. The night shift remembered us from the last time we had stopped in there, and we were able to share more tracts – the curved illusion and some more million dollar bills, available at LivingWaters.

Tom had noticed a group of young guys reading and went over to talk to them. They were having a Bible study there in Taco Bell, and so we were able to share with them what we had been doing earlier in the evening. They just happened to be studying Matt 28 – the Great Commission.

They seemed very much in line with the Bible on evangelism and reaching out to the lost. We left them with a few tracts and websites to check out for evangelism resources, and they gave us some info for their church website. They expressed some interest in the Crash Course coming up at the end of the month, so maybe we’ll see them there.
Pray for more workers (Luke 10:2)

Anyone else notice a common factor there? Is there any doubt as to what values our country was founded upon?
Look how far we've fallen.....

Wednesday 04-07-10

I was able to talk to my boss a little today at lunch. He heard my music in the parking lot - I blast it pretty loud. He said he liked the music I was playing, and I told him it wasn't what he thought it was. He thought I was listening to Kansas, "Carry On My Wayward Son", but I was listening to ApologetiX.

They're a Christian parody band, and pretty good, too. I was actually listening to "Hurry Home My Wayward Son" - about the prodigal son. So that gave an opening, and he asked me later what church I went to. He's been going to church, he broke away from the Catholic church that he grew up in and is going to a regular Bible-based church now. He was tired of the empty ritual in Roman Catholicism.

I was able to explain what we do, currently going out and actively evangelizing as we're commanded by the Lord in the Great Commission, and explained that we offer a free class every month or so to equip people in overcoming their fears of sharing their faith. I didn't get too in depth, but was able to plant some seeds before others met up with us and the conversation turned to other things.

I pray that this brief conversation sticks with him and maybe he'll eventually show interest in a class or further information. I've given him tracts before, so I'm just hoping to keep eternal things in the forefront of his mind.

You never know when an opportunity will come up, we must be ready in season and out of season. I wish I would have been more ready. Who would have thought that blasting my music would lead to a conversation like this?
We serve an amazing God.

Recall Notice

The Maker of all human beings is recalling all units manufactured, regardless of make or year, due to a serious defect in the primary and central component of the heart.

This is due to a malfunction in the original prototype units code named Adam and Eve, resulting in the reproduction of the same defect in all subsequent units.
This defect has been technically termed "Subsequential Internal Non-Morality," or more commonly known as S.I.N., as it is primarily expressed.

Some other symptoms include:

Please see the operating manual, the B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth) for further details on the use of these fixes.

DANGER: The human being units not responding to this recall action will have to be scrapped in the furnace.

The SIN defect will not be permitted to enter Heaven to prevent contamination of that facility..
